ï  µ Refuses to Talk to Other People My cousin is a timid and unsocial girl. When she transferred to a new school, she rarely communicated with her classmates and therefore, did not have any new friends. Research has found that students involved in bullying are at greater risk for a number of mental health problems such as increased feelings of loneliness, a loss of self-esteem, and difficulties making friends or maintaining relationships with classmate (2001). The school should develop a policy on bullying and aggressive or violent behavior. ( Rigby, K. 2001) Include both the rules and expectations and the consequences for breaking the rules. Make sure that all students, their parents and guardians, and community members are aware of the policy. Review the policy on a regular basis to make sure it is relevant. ïÆ' ¼ Provide Adequate Monitoring in Bully-prone Areas Bullying occurs everywhere: in home, high schools and in the workplace. (Olweus,1995). Teachers and administrators need to be aware that bullying generally happens in school areas. Figure 2 shows that the classroom; bathroom hallways and playground are three main bully-prone areas. If a teacher observes bullying in a classroom, he or she needs to immediately
